4/27/2024 0 Comments Apple airport express audio setupSo far I was using Apple AirPort Express devices (connected exclusively to the gigabit ethernet switch) for this purpose and it worked fine, but Apple discontinued their 'AirPort' devices and I don't really want to hunt for used AirPort Expresses on eBay, Amazon or other online stores. The main issue here is that the customers want to stream the music through Wi-Fi to the different zones. There are different projects - from 4 to 15 zones. I'm designing multi-zone Pro Audio solutions for residential places. I was searching for months, but could not find a real solution, that would work for my projects. The Airport Express itself is fantastic for boosting the WiFi signal and even has a serviceable DAC! But I want to make people aware of the specific limitations that the Airport Express might have in an audio setup, specifically where wireless needs are concerned. This is my first thread on this forum. For now I’ll stick with using my phone as a control for iTunes on my computer, my PC being plugged into the audio setup.ĭisclaimer: This review isn’t intended to hate on Apple. This is the point where I put my foot down and say that enough is enough. If the Airport Express was as magical as the praisers made it out to be, why are Apple discontinuing the line? Well there had to be a reason, and if I had to guess based off my personal experience, it can only carry out all its advertised functions provided that you meet the extremely limited conditions that depend on buying further into the eco-system. But in actuality a few people cannot meet these conditions. Now I have no doubt that the Airport Express is a fantastic wireless receiver in the right situations where your audio setup is located close to your router OR if you have an Airport router. Move my audio setup downstairs next to my router.Įliminating all signal interference in my nearby vicinity.Ĭoncerns about audio intermittently cutting out existed online, but were largely drowned out and disregarded by Pro-Apple praise from people who had no such issues. Have another Airport product serve as the primary router, because in-built synergy removes these audio dropping issues. Link the AExpress to the router via ethernet. WiFi is better than bluetooth, they say! However, I faced severe limitations which ended up making the product pretty unusable - namely that the audio kept on cutting out and that the fixes seem limited and extremely impractical for me to implement: I am wholly invested into the Apple eco-system and online forums (Reddit included) would have you believe that the Airport Express is the perfect wireless solution. With Airplay 2 support recently being announced, I decided to purchase a second hand Airport Express (£20) as a wireless solution to my new audio setup.
